Albert J. MatasMatas, Albert J. - Obituary Obituary for Albert J. Matas Albert J. Matas Sr. 1926-2010 STREATOR ? Albert J. Matas Sr., 84, of Streator, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 14, at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator, with Monsignor John Prendergast officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. Mr. Matas was born Nov. 30, 1926, in Streator, the son of John and Mary (Majercin) Matas. He married Barbara Rogers, Nov. 14, 1953, in Ottawa. She survives. Albert had been employed as a welder for many years at Knoedler Manufacturing, Streator, and later worked in maintenance at Streator National Bank. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Church. He attended St. Stephen's Grade School. Al was a veteran of World War II, serving in with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Matas of Streator; one daughter, Karla (Fred) Neiggemann, and one son, Albert (Trish) Matas Jr., both of Streator; five grandchildren, Kristi (Tony) Libby, Kelsey and Kasey Neiggemann, John Matas and Josh Boyd; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Lemler, Streator, and Ann (Joe) Yanko, Naplate. He was preceded in death by his parents, two great-grandsons, two sisters, Eva Matas in infancy and Marie McCumsey, and one brother, Andrew Matas. Pallbearers will be Fred Neiggemann, John, Greg and Andrew Matas, Jason Boyd and Tony Libby. Honorary pallbearers will be Chase and Masen Libby. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
