Mary E. Hicks - Huerfano World - June 4, 1998

Mary E. Hicks, 92, of La Veta, died May 29, 1998 in Trinidad State Nursing Home where she had been a resident since, February, 1995. Born June 16, 1905 in Springfield, Ill., to Ray and Ann Thrasher Coates, she and her family moved to the Southern California area when she was a young woman and there she began her long productive art career. She attended Otis Art Institute and Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles.

She met and married Milton Hicks, who she was wed to for 62 years. In 1974, Mrs. Hicks and Milton moved to La Veta to be with their children and grand-children. He died in 1989. Mrs. Hicks is survived by two daughters, Margie Bradley, La Veta and Judy Welch, Deming, NM; a sister, Mable Banderas, West Covina, CA; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

At Mrs. Hicks request, cremation. No service. Huerfano World - July 9, 1998 - Memorial service for Mary Hicks of La Veta will be held Wednesday, July 15, 1998. Site and time is United Methodist Church in La Veta at 4 p.m. Mrs. Hicks died May 29, 1998 in a nursing home in Trinidad.
