Obituary for Edward Majercin in the Streator Times-Press News.

Edward E. Majercin, 85, of Streator passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 at his residence in Streator.


Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Jacob Rose will officiate. 

Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Saturday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. 
Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be his sons Joseph, James and Edward Majercin; a grandson, Dustin Dawson; and Darold McKinney. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

Born August 9, 1929 in Streator he was the son of John and Catherine (Popovich) Majercin. He was married to Anita Germanoro from 1961-1990. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by a daughter, Anita (Darold McKinney) Smith of Streator; sons, James Majercin of Pontiac, Edward (Shannon) Majercin of Streator and Joseph Majercin of Port Orange, Florida; grandchildren, Trayton Majercin and Dustin Dawson; sisters, Teresa (Harry) Willever of Cupertino, California, Frances Uhren of Waco, Texas and Virginia Sereg of Baraboo, Wisconsin; and a brother, Bernard "Ben" (Sandy) Majercin of Streator.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John and James Majercin.
Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Stephen's grade school and Streator High School. He served in the United States Navy an Aerial Engineer from 1950 to 1955. He received the good conduct medal and the national defense service medal while in the Navy. 

As a young man Ed worked for the United States Government on the DEW line which was a chain of radar installations that stretched across Alaska and Canada. The DEW line was an advance warning system of Soviet nuclear bomber strikes. He worked for the training center southwest of Streator that was run by Federal Electric. He also spent time in Alaska working on the DEW line which he always had fond memories of. He also worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company from 1947-1950 and later worked for St. Mary's Hospital as an electrician for over 20 years.

He was a member of the former St. Stephen's Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He was a member of Lazy Acres Sportsmen's Club, the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

Ed loved animals, especially dogs. In recent years Ed stayed busy by helping his children by taking care of their dogs. He will be greatly missed.

Memorials may be directed to the Illinois Valley Animal Rescue or Recycled Rotts.
